Xbox live Summer of Arcade has released many great games in the past. The likes of Braid, Castle Crashers, Limbo and Shadow Complex have all been a part of this event. This year's summer starts off with an action RPG called Bastion which reminds us why we look forward to the Summer of Arcade every year. The first thing you'll notice is the beautiful art design. Some games have a way of charming you with just the heart; this is certainly one of them. The game doesn't need to stand on the graphics alone as the other aspects are all but perfectly implemented. The score is also perfect for the setting and certain tracks will remain in your memory for a long time.
A catastrophic event called The Calamity has broken the world into many parts and its up to a silent protagonist The Kid to bring the Bastion back to life.
The Kid finds an old man on the road who narrates the whole game. Aside from narrating the story, he just has to comment on everything you do. If you find a new weapon, if your health is low or if you are idly standing, his sarcastic but hilarious comments will never let you feel lonely.

Bastion looks like a really big jigsaw puzzle and you'll stare with wonder as the world reconstructs itself with every step you take.
There are a variety of weapons to be found from muskets to flamethrowers. Every weapon can then be upgraded in a number of different ways. There are special powers to be unlocked and you gain new passive boosts as you level up. Combine all of them and you get a hundred different combinations to be created which makes replaying the game all the more fun. The new game+ mode lets you keep your abilities and wreak havoc with even greater force. Here is when the shrines come in the picture. Just like skulls increase the difficulty in Halo for bonus points, you can activate shrines for different difficulty enhancements and bonus xp.Bastion nails all the different aspects of a video game and they collectively work like a gem. There is probably no reason to not get it. Bastion is available for download from Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points, and will be released for Windows later this year.
